Origin of the Name
The
official name of the state is Coahuila of
Zaragoza, in honor of the General Ignacio
Zaragoza. The origin of the name Coahuila is not
known with certainty. When the Spaniards arrived
to this territory they met with indigenous
inhabitants that were made call coahuiltecos.
Some historians think that in náhuatl it means:
viper that flies, (coatl, snake and huila, to
fly); others think that it means: place of many
trees (quautli, tree and the, abundance).
Origins Following the trajectory of remains of
mammoth and the vestiges of lances and other
stone devices, the scientists think that at
least 40 thousand years ago they had already
arrived in America the first inhabitants. It is
known that the man walked along thousands of
years from Asia to America.
In the north of our state they have been
vestiges that allow to make sure that 12
thousand years ago they arrived at the Big or
Brave River some groups of hunter-recolectores.
The recent discovery of human prints petrified
in the valley of Cuatro Cienegas makes think
that the human presence in that place can go
back until more than 10 thousand years behind,
although they are still necessary scientific
studies that you/they demonstrate it.
As the time
passed and the climate of the region changed,
those hunter-recolectoes they adapted to its
means without altering its form of life a lot.
Later on they integrated tribes or bands that
were dispersed in the whole American continent.
